Home   Grinder Damage Alert System

Apollo Equipment proudly introduces to you the first U.S. patented vibration-activated alert system for wood grinders.  The Damage Alert System senses unwanted metal objects that enter the wood grinder and prevents severe damage by shutting down the grinder.  The system can be operated with one or two sensors depending on the necessary level of protection.  Its sensitivity can be adjusted to control the size of metal objects permitted through the grinder.  Utilizing magnets for mounting the sensors and the control box, the Damage Alert System can be mounted quickly anywhere on the grinder.

Benefits include:

  • Saves on repair bills

  • Prevents costly down time

  • Increases contract opportunities

  • Senses unwanted metal-to-metal contact

INSTALLATION
The Damage Alert System is quickly and easily installed by using a magnetic clamping mechanism.  The transducer is typically attached to the back side of the anvil.  The control box may be attached to the grinder using bolts or four permanent magnets, in any convenient and accessible location.  The transducer is connected to the electronics box with coaxial cable and connectors.  All mounting hardware, cabling and connectors necessary for normal installation are provided.

OPERATION
Once installed, the sensitivity of the Damage Alert System is manually adjusted using the red and green LED indicators.  As debris is moved through the machine the sensitivity level is fine-tuned to detect damaging debris of a prescribed size; the system is then set to the “ARM” mode for continuous operation and protection.

In the “ARM” mode, any pulses which are intense enough to illuminate the red section of the bar graph display, however briefly, will trip a system relay, instantly cutting power and disabling the grinder or reversing the in-feed.  The tripped condition is indicated with the steady illumination of the LED bar at the top of the display.  If the grinder shuts down, so that there are no more pulses, the relay remains tripped, and the top LED remains illuminated until the obstruction is removed and the system is reset.

SYSTEM OPTIONS
The Damage Alert System is designed as a turn-key operational unit.  One or two separate sensor heads can be used, depending on application, machine size and design, and desired level of production.
